KOLKATA: The Indian Navy’s amphibious transport dock INS Jalashwa reached the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran to bring back Indian nationals stranded there.
This is part of Operation Samudra Setu launched by the Government of India to bring back citizens stranded in other countries after travel restrictions were imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the last three-odd months, INS Jalashwa along with other amphibious warships of the Navy have been travelling to several countries as part of this operation. The INS Jalashwa has travelled to and from the Maldives several times and to Sri Lanka once to bring back Indian nationals.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that INS Jalashwa has berthed at the Shahid Bahonar terminal at Bandar Abbas for embarkation of Indians. Nearly 700 Indians are expected to board the ship on Thursday before the voyage back to India starts.
