NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Monday summoned Pakistan’s Charge d’affaires to India who was issued a demarche on the reported arrest of two Indian high commission officials in Islamabad, according to sources.
The Indian high commission in Pakistan had earlier confirmed that two of its officials are missing and that the matter was taken up with authorities in Pakistan, according to PTI.
The demarch to Pakistan Charge d’affaires Syed Hyder Shah made clear that there should be no interrogation or harassment of the Indian officials.
According to the sources, the Pakistan envoy was told that the responsibility for the safety and security of the concerned diplomatic personnel lay squarely with the Pakistani authorities.
The Pakistani side was asked to return the two officials along with the official car to the high commission immediately, the sources said.
The incident came days after two Pakistani officials at Pakistani high commission in New Delhi were deported for espionage activities in India.
