Soldier killed, two injured in twin breach of truce in J&K | India News

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR: A soldier was killed and two others were injured on Saturday night after Pakistan shelled forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Shahpur and Kirni sectors of J&K’s Poonch district. In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Pakistan again breached the truce along the LoC in Uri’s Rampur sector on Sunday morning.
This is the third soldier death on the Indian side during the recent ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Havildar Mathiazhagan P from Tamil Nadu was killed on June 4 in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district and Naik Gurcharan Singh (28) of Punjab was killed on June 10 in Manjakote sector of the same district. On Friday, a 40-year-old woman was killed while two other civilians, all residents of Uri, were injured in a similar breach of truce.
Late on Saturday, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy unprovoked firing in Kirni sector of Poonch in which Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei (29) was injured along with other two soldiers. The three were rushed to hospital where Abonmei — who was critically wounded — later succumbed, Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said. “Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty,” Lt Col Anand added.
On Sunday morning, Pakistan again resorted to unprovoked firing and heavy shelling along the LoC in Uri’s Rampur sector, to which Indian troops effectively retaliated, defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said.
