CM BSY to pursue Suburban rail project in Delhi | India News

BENGALURU: Karantaka chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday resolved to pursue the much delayed Suburban rail project with union minister Piyush Goyal when he heads to Delhi later this month.
Ahead of the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the BMRCL, Railways and Karnataka government, Yediyuappa is said to have had a brief chat with the south western railways (SWR) divisional railway manager (DRM) Ashok Kumar Verma who was present for the event.
CMO officials said during the course of Yediyurappa’s interaction with the Railways officials and BMRCL officials, he took stock of the suburban railway project and discussed the required intervention on his behalf.
“The CM has asked for a detailed update on what is required to be discussed with the union minister with regard to the project. He is ready to pursue the project with the centre,” said the official.
It is said Yediyurappa may head to Delhi post September 14, when the Parliament is in session and all union ministers are available for meeting him.
The Suburban railway project has been pending for over one and half years, since Modi 1.0 government rushed minister Goyal to fast track the 14 year old project by holding talks with then CM H D Kumaraswamy, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
But since then, stuck amid movement of files at the centre and lack of coordination has meant the project continues to be only on paper.
